Win over PLDT a confidence-booster, says Valdez

Creamline figured in a tough bout against PLDT on Saturday night.

Facing a streaking High Speed Hitters who won their last three games, the Cool Smashers found themselves in a 0-2 hole early in the match after dropping an 11-18 advantage in the second set.

The Rebisco-backed squad finally established its footing in the third and fourth frame before eventually taking a 10-5 advantage in the fifth frame. From there, Creamline fended off a late rally from PLDT as Tots Carlos and Jeanette Panaga put on the finishing touches in the hard-fought, 22-25, 25-27, 25-21, 25-19, 15-12 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Cool Smashers skipper Alyssa Valdez said that the team is already bracing for a tough challenge against the High Speed Hitters, who were coming off a character-building victory against Cignal last Thursday.

Valdez also bared that the team strayed away from their tradition of celebrating every point during the first two sets which resulted in the 0-2 hole. Fortunately for them, the coaching staff was there to remind them to play their game.

"As coach said, we're very, very lucky din talaga in today's game. During the second set, we were really ahead but unfortunately, grabe rin yung mga nilalaro rin ng PLDT. We know na they're peaking talaga on the right time so andoon talaga yung laro nila," said Valdez, who finished with 14 points in the win.

"Siguro nung second set pa lang tinanggap na namin na kailangan naming harapin yung ganung challenge so during the third set, ang sinabi lang talaga sa amin ni coach is to play our game kasi I think too much yung mga iniisip talaga and nakakalimutan namin yung culture namin na we really have to celebrate every point and really be there for each other," added the former league MVP.

Now standing at 2-0 in the PVL Invitational Conference semis, Valdez hopes that this win could be the team's much-needed confidence booster for the games to come.

"Yun lang but overall, hopefully, maging confidence-booster talaga 'to syempre medyo dikit-dikit din yung mga games but hopefully after this win din talaga mabalik din sa amin yung confidence as a team and as an individual."
