After two-year hiatus, Wong out to give back to Choco Mucho

BACARRA, ILOCOS NORTE -- Deanna Wong had a rough year, to say the least, but she's glad that she went through all of it with her Choco Mucho family.

The 23-year-old setter out of Cebu took a break from competitive volleyball in 2019.

Wong was then supposed to make her return to the squad for Season 83, but the COVID-19 scrapped the previous season which derailed her plans.

Now back in volleyball after a two-year hiatus, Wong is playing her best volleyball under her former Ateneo coach Oliver Almadro and Lady Eagles teammates Bea De Leon, Maddie Madayag, Kat Tolentino, Jamie Lavitoria, and Kim Gequillana.

"Sobrang grateful, I'm really happy. Two years kasi ako nawala kaya I'm just really grateful na bumalik yung volleyball, bumalik yung paglaro namin, at bumalik yung team," Wong said after Choco Mucho dispatched Cignal in three sets on Tuesday.

"It's been really tough the past few months, it's been really rough and they were there para i-support ako andyan para sa akin nagmamahal. Sobrang grateful ako sa kanila talaga," she added.

Wong played phenomenal against Cignal, tallying 19 excellent sets along with three points to aid the Flying Titans in their fourth-straight win 26-24, 25-12, 25-17, against a skidding Cignal squad.

Choco Mucho is currently tied with Creamline at the top spot with 4-0 standings.

And Wong hopes they continue to ride the momentum they are in.

"It's okay, it's great parang more to improve on every game naman. We're slowly getting there even if bago pa lang ako sa Choco Mucho, it's the system kasi we know each other nung college nagkasama kami and it's about getting to know each other talaga," she said.

"Hindi lang siya team, we're really a family yun yung nakapag angat sa amin ng slight lang naman." (DJ)
