Akari is making sure to have a formidable coaching staff in its first-ever campaign in the Premier Volleyball League.
The Chargers have announced on Thursday that they are tapping Brazilian head coach Jorge Edson Souza de Brito as their head coach.
Souza de Brito is also a consultant for the Philippine Women's National Volleyball Team.
As a player, Souza de Brito was part of Brazil's men's national volleyball team that won gold in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
Since 2002, the native of Porto Alegre has coached in Brazil, Turkey, Japan, and Korea.
He was also part of Brazil's remote staff in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Last year, Souza de Brito was tapped by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation to be part of the national team's staff through the FIVB's development project platform.
The Chargers will make their league debut in the Reinforced Conference.
