Alas continues unbeaten run, defeats India in 4

In a thrilling showdown at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, Alas Pilipinas displayed their prowess once more, clinching a remarkable victory over India in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women. 


Despite a shaky start, the Filipino squad rallied back after dropping the first set, clinching the next three sets to secure a 22-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-18 win on Friday evening at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.


With this triumph, the Philippines now sits atop Pool A, boasting an impeccable 2-0 record.


Head coach Jorge Souza de Brito commended his team's resilience, emphasizing their commitment and dedication on the court. 


“Every time we play here, I'm sure they're going to show something better than the day before. Even if the players are a little bit tired, they have the specific ingredients that we need,” said Alas head coach Jorge Souza de Brito after the one-hour, 55-minute match.


Fueled by the enthusiastic support from the crowd, Alas Pilipinas seized control of the match, dominating the pivotal moments and thwarting every attempt by the Indian team to stage a comeback.


Angel Canino emerged as a standout performer for Alas Pilipinas, delivering a stellar performance with 22 points, showcasing her prowess in the opposite position.


Eya Laure also made significant contributions, chipping in with 17 points, while Julia Coronel and Fifi Sharma showcased their offensive prowess with 12 points each.


Captain-setter Jia De Guzman orchestrated the team's plays brilliantly, further solidifying Alas Pilipinas' chemistry amidst a short preparation time. 


With their sights set on maintaining their unbeaten streak, the Philippines is gearing up for a crucial matchup against Iran tomorrow.


On the opposing side, Soorya Soorya led India's offensive charge with 15 points, supported by Radha Anagha and Anusree Kambrath Poyilil, who contributed 13 and 12 points respectively. 


Despite their valiant efforts, India fell short against a determined Alas Pilipinas squad.
