In a thrilling display of skill, resilience, and sheer determination, Alyssa Valdez, the three-time Premier Volleyball League conference MVP, proved that she is indeed back and stronger than ever.
After a sensational performance against F2 Logistics just days ago, Valdez delivered another awe-inspiring showing in yet another heart-stopping five-setter, leading her team Creamline to a hard-fought victory over Cignal, with a scoreline of 23-25, 25-16, 25-21, 24-26, 15-10. The Philsports Arena witnessed an electrifying match as the packed venue erupted in cheers for the triumphant comeback of their beloved volleyball superstar.
Before the Invitational Conference, Alyssa Valdez had been sidelined for an arduous seven months due to a knee injury.
Her return to the court had been eagerly anticipated, and she did not disappoint. Displaying her trademark explosiveness and agility, Valdez scored a personal conference-high of 22 points, consisting of 18 powerful attacks, two crucial blocks, and two impeccable service aces. Her exceptional performance was nothing short of inspiring, underscoring her unparalleled value to the Creamline squad.
Cool Smashers' head coach, Sherwin Meneses, recognized the significance of Valdez's experience and leadership on the court. He praised her impact on the team, especially in high-stakes matches like the one against Cignal.
"Of course, their experience is a significant advantage, especially in matches like that. We all know that experiencing such battles is rare, so perhaps Ly [referring to Alyssa Valdez] has had many of them," he acknowledged.
"We are really happy that Alyssa has returned. She is a big help to us," Coach Meneses added, beaming with pride.
Valdez's outstanding performance was complemented by the exceptional contributions of her teammates. Tots Carlos led the pack with an impressive 27 points, while Jema Galanza added 21 points of her own. This well-balanced offensive approach has proven to be a key strength for Creamline, allowing them to secure back-to-back five-set victories and maintain an unbeaten record of 3-0 in the tournament, including a win against PLDT in pool play.
For Alyssa Valdez, the joy of being back on the court and actively contributing to her team's success after months of recovery was immeasurable.
She expressed her gratitude and elation, saying, "Honestly, it feels so good to be able to contribute, and it's nice to know that it's coming from overcoming an injury. It's also great to gauge where the results are now and see the fruits of my hard work for the past 7-8 months."
Her comeback serves as a testament to the indomitable spirit of athletes and their ability to overcome adversity. Valdez's presence on the court has not only bolstered Creamline's performance but has also become a source of motivation for her teammates.
"I'm just happy that they're here, and we're all happy that everyone is helping each other in Creamline," she emphasized, highlighting the importance of teamwork and unity in their journey to victory.
