Majoy Baron had stellar performance in Saturday's showdown against Farm Fresh in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference elimination round.
Standing tall at 5-foot-11, Baron showcased her prowess in the High Speed Hitters' emphatic straight-set victory, delivering a standout performance that underscored her importance to the team's success.
Her contributions were instrumental as PLDT secured their third consecutive win, dominating Farm Fresh with a scoreline of 25-9, 25-13, 25-21 at the Ynares Center.
Baron's evolution on the court was evident as she notched an impressive 11 points, featuring seven attacks, two blocks, and two aces. This remarkable display marked a significant improvement from her earlier performances, where she averaged 5.6 points in the first five games of the season.
"Happy kasi nakuha na namin ‘yung momentum at mas nakikilala na namin ang isa’t isa sa loob ng court at mas nakakasunod kami sa sistema," shared the 28-year-old middle blocker, reflecting on PLDT's growing cohesion as they surged to join Creamline at the top spot with identical 5-1 records.
Baron attributed her seamless integration into the High Speed Hitters' system to her familiarity with starting setter Kim Fajardo, emphasizing the importance of their partnership in her development.
“Of course, natututo pa rin ako along the way. Pero I can say na hindi naman ako nahihirapan mag-adjust sa system kasi kasama ko rin si Ate Kim (Fajardo), so hindi na rin ako nag-aadjust sa setting,” said Baron, drawing from her experience with Fajardo both in the national team and previous club teams.
The longstanding partnership between Baron and Fajardo spans more than a decade, cultivated through their tenure at La Salle in the UAAP and F2 Logistics in the Philippine Super Liga and the PVL. Their transition to PLDT, alongside teammate Kianna Dy, marked a new chapter in their storied collaboration following the disbandment of the Cargo Movers' roster last year.
Beyond their on-court chemistry, Baron acknowledged the pivotal role of head coach Rald Ricafort and the coaching staff in steering PLDT towards success.
“Kami naman nag-aaral kami nang maayos at sumusunod lang kami sa gustong mangyari nila coach at sa sistema ng team. I think ‘yun yung naging key eh, maglalaro na lang talaga kami, susunod na lang kami,” emphasized Baron, highlighting the team's commitment to executing the coaching staff's directives.
