The rise of the Farm Fresh Foxies in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference has been a testament to their disciplined approach, highlighted by the arrival of interim head coach Benson Bocboc.
Known for his statistics-driven approach, Bocboc has played a pivotal role in honing the team’s in-game adjustments and enhancing their scouting capabilities, making a significant impact on the young squad.
Team captain Louie Romero and reigning Reinforced Conference Best Opposite Spiker Trisha Tubu shared how Bocboc’s influence has streamlined their preparation and execution during matches.
“Of course, si Coach Benson sa stats talaga siya eh so mas mabilis naming ma-adjust ‘yung dapat ma-adjust and mabilis naming mabasa ‘yung kalaban namin,” Romero explained, emphasizing how Bocboc’s data-driven guidance has helped the team adjust quickly and better read their opponents.
Tubu echoed her teammate’s sentiments, highlighting how Bocboc’s insights have allowed the team to focus their efforts and play with a better understanding of their opponents.
“So malaking help siya kasi hindi mo na kailangan gumalaw ng todo kasi kilala mo na at tsaka napag-aralan mo na ‘yung kalaban,” Tubu added.
This efficient approach was on full display when the Foxies shocked Akari in a straight-set victory, marking their first-ever win over the Chargers since joining the league. The dominant 25-23, 25-21, 25-14 triumph in the ongoing All-Filipino tilt was a testament to the team’s belief in Bocboc’s system.
Tubu, who played a key role in the win, contributed 21 points, including 18 attacks and three kill blocks. Romero, the team’s setter, was equally instrumental, directing the offense with 19 excellent sets while adding five points of her own.
For Bocboc, the success is a reflection of the team’s adaptability and their unwavering trust in the game plan. His last head coaching stint in the PVL was with the now-defunct F2 Logistics, but his current squad has impressed him with their focus and flexibility.
“Sa tingin ko, kasi flexible ‘yung team eh. May mga instruction ka mabilis nila makuha so kailangan lang they have to stick dun sa ginagawa tapos magtiwala lang sila then ‘yung result susunod eh. So ngayon, nagkataon natapat dito sa game na ito. Tinatiyaga talaga nila,” Bocboc said.
