Black Mamba-Army upends Cignal to finish in sixth place

ILOCOS NORTE - Black Mamba Army charged back from five points down in the fourth and completed a 25-14, 17-25, 25-19, 25-19 victory over Cignal HD to finish sixth in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference, Saturday at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center here in Bacarra.

Royse Tubino and Jovy Gonzaga led the attack for the Lady Troopers, who closed out their campaign in the 10-team inaugurals of the pro volley league with a 4-5 (win-loss) card.

"We finished on a high note so we have a graceful exit kahit papaano," said Army head coach Kungfu Reyes.

With the HD Spikers threatening to comeback, Nene Bautista converted a hit to put Army ahead, 23-18, in the fourth set.

Jovelyn Gonzaga then put the Lady Troopers at match-point, but Rachel Daquis kept Cignal alive.

Daquis then committed an attack error which ended the match.

Gonzaga finished with 14 points and 19 excellent digs while Royse Tubino added 12 markers in the victory.

Ging Balse-Pabayo also made her mark with nine points while Fhen Emnas had 20 excellent sets to go along with four points.

The HD Spikers, who split their first two games, dropped their last seven matches to end up last with a 1-8 slate, the same output of Perlas, which took ninth place after beating the former in four last July 29.

Daquis led Cignal with 13 points while Roselyn Doria added 10.

Ayel Estra?ero ended with 29 excellent sets and 21 excellent receptions.
