Candon City, Ilocos Sur is all set to welcome back the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour with open arms and heightened anticipation as it plays host to another explosive double-header at the Candon City Arena on July 29.
Highlighting the day’s festivities is a marquee clash between powerhouse squads Petro Gazz Angels and Choco Mucho Flying Titans – two teams tipped to contend for the crown in the league’s ongoing pre-season tournament.
This marks the third time the dynamic city in Northern Luzon will host the PVL On Tour, solidifying its growing reputation as a major player in the national sporting landscape. The timing couldn’t be more perfect as the competition continues to intensify, with each match serving as a testament to the elevated level of play brought by a mix of seasoned veterans and sensational newcomers.
Indeed, the arrival of blue-chip rookies has contributed to an unprecedented level of parity in the tournament, making each showdown a must-watch affair. But among the four teams seeing action in Candon, all eyes will once again be on defending All-Filipino champion Petro Gazz, which has a storied history of success in the city.
The Angels have swept their previous PVL On Tour outings at the Candon City Arena, including a dominant performance against the Nxled Chameleons on Oct. 27, 2023, and a resounding win over the Farm Fresh Foxies on Nov. 23, 2024.
In both cases, fans were treated to straight-set victories that underscored the team’s dominance – and they’ll be out to make it a hat trick when they face the Flying Titans in what is expected to be a fierce battle.
Both teams, however, will first be tested in crucial matchups against Farm Fresh and PLDT in Ilagan City on July 12 and 13, which will serve as key tune-ups for their highly anticipated clash in Candon.
Kicking off the July 29 twinbill at 4 p.m. is a showdown between Chery Tiggo and Capital1, promising another exciting duel to warm up the crowd for the nightcap.
Behind the scenes, Candon City is pulling out all the stops to ensure the success of the event.
Under the leadership of Mayor Eric Singson, the city government has mobilized resources and coordinated with local stakeholders to deliver a seamless and memorable experience for players, officials and fans alike.
The Candon City Arena, now known for its state-of-the-art features and technology, continues to evolve as a premier destination for national-level sporting events.
The upcoming PVL stop is part of the city's larger vision to cement its place on the Philippine sports map, not only as a host city, but as a proud catalyst of regional sports development.
Beyond the games, the local government and organizers are preparing a variety of activities, including fan interactions and meet-and-greets, aimed at fostering community involvement and amplifying the local excitement.
For local residents and visiting fans alike, July 29 promises to be more than just a sporting event – it will be a celebration of passion, community and volleyball.
