Capital1 continued to bolster its roster ahead of the new Premier Volleyball League season, bringing in former Galeries Tower captain Julia Coronel to further strengthen its revamped squad.
The Solar Spikers announced Coronel’s signing on Thursday, just two days after the 5-foot-9 setter parted ways with the Highrisers following a season as their team captain.
Coronel now joins a Capital1 squad that has undergone significant changes in the offseason, highlighted by the arrivals of former Most Valuable Players Vanie Gandler and Erika Santos.
The move also reunites Coronel with several familiar faces, including Bella Belen and Gandler, whom she previously played alongside during Alas Pilipinas national team windows.
She will likewise reunite with former Alas head coach Jorge Souza de Brito, who is now at the helm of Capital1.
Coronel is expected to provide both experience and leadership to the Solar Spikers, having captained Galeries Tower during the previous season. She will also join Jasmine Nabor and Jaja Maraguinot in Capital1’s setter rotation.
A product of De La Salle University, Coronel was selected third overall in the inaugural 2024 PVL Draft after helping the Lady Spikers to a championship. She also spent the past three years in the Alas Pilipinas program, gaining valuable international experience.
Her addition further strengthens Capital1’s plans to build around Belen, the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s PVL Draft, as the Solar Spikers aim to make a bigger impact in the upcoming campaign.
Capital1 will debut its new-look lineup against Choco Mucho on October 10 at the newly opened SM Seaside Arena in Cebu, marking the start of the PVL’s landmark season.
