Chery Tiggo emerged as a formidable force over the past weeks in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, propelled by a resounding three-game winning streak.
However, behind their recent surge lies a story of resilience and redemption, epitomized by setter Alina Bicar's triumphant return to the court.
Following a disheartening defeat to Farm Fresh, the Crossovers made a pivotal decision—to entrust Bicar with the starting setter position.
This maneuver proved to be a game-changer as they clinched successive victories against volleyball powerhouses Creamline, Petro Gazz, and Nxled.
In their latest showdown against the Chameleons, Bicar's stellar performance earned her the well-deserved title of Player of the Game, orchestrating plays with finesse through 17 excellent sets and 13 digs.
For head coach Kungfu Reyes, Bicar's resurgence symbolizes more than just a player's return; it embodies the team's unwavering perseverance and dedication.
“Little by little. Natiyaga na nga namin siya hintayin nang medyo matagal, ngayon pa kayang nandito na siya?” Reyes reflected after their hard-fought victory.
“Hindi naman kami humihingi ng sobra-sobra, 'yung tama lang as long as kaya niyang i-deliver.”
While celebrating Bicar's comeback, Reyes acknowledges the arduous journey ahead for the 25-year-old setter, still on the path to reclaiming her peak form post-injury.
Despite her remarkable performance, Reyes underscores the need for continued improvement, citing agility, consistency, and strategic finesse as areas of focus.
“Nag-Best Player pero marami pa rin siyang dapat i-compensate, especially 'yung kabuuan kasi nandoon na siya. Process eh,” Reyes emphasized. “We’re happy kasi nadadala na niya pero marami pa siyang dapat i-improve."
In the midst of acclaim, Bicar remains grounded, attributing her success to the collective effort of her teammates.
As the University of Santo Tomas alumna humbly shares, “Nag-enjoy lang po kami at nagtulungan with the help of my teammates din, kasi siyempre sila 'yung pumapalo, ako lang 'yung nagse-set. Hindi ko ‘to magagawa kung wala rin sila.”
