Chery Tiggo is reloading for another title chase in the Premier Volleyball League after officially securing the services of Cuban outside hitter Yunieska Batista for the 2025 Reinforced Conference.
The 32-year-old veteran, who last suited up for Yesilyurt Sports Club in Turkey, brings a wealth of international experience and offensive firepower to the Crossovers’ arsenal.
Known for her explosiveness on the wings, Batista is expected to provide the scoring punch and steady leadership that Chery Tiggo has been searching for in its import spot.
“Power, performance, and new energy! Outside Hitter Yunieska Batista joins the Chery Tiggo EV Crossovers,” the club announced in a social media post on Tuesday.
The move comes after a roller-coaster year for the Crossovers in 2024. Reinforced by Canadian star Kathryn Bell, Chery Tiggo managed only a fifth-place finish in last season’s Reinforced Conference.
But the squad showed steady progress in domestic play this year, bagging a silver medal in the PVL On Tour—pushing PLDT to five sets in the finals—and a fourth-place finish in the Invitational Conference after bowing to perennial powerhouse Creamline.
With Batista now in the fold, the Crossovers are determined to push past their recent near-misses. She will join a versatile cast of wingers featuring Ara Galang, Cess Robles, Shaya Adorador, Baby Jyne Soreño, and young gun Renee Peñafiel—a mix of veterans and promising talent poised to complement the Cuban hitter’s firepower.
