Choco Mucho fights for Des Cheng

In the heart of Sta. Rosa, a passionate display of unity and resolve unfolded as the Choco Mucho Flying Titans came together in the face of adversity, pledging to honor their sidelined teammate, Des Cheng. Last Thursday, the team embarked on a new chapter without Cheng and emerged victorious, securing their third consecutive win in the Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference at the Sta. Rosa Sports Complex.

This was a crucial moment for the Flying Titans as they swept Galeries Tower with a final score of 25-21, 25-16, 25-20. Sisi Rondina, the team's standout, continued to lead the way with an exceptional performance. Despite Cheng's absence, Rondina scored 16 points, including 13 successful attacks, two blocks, and one ace. Her exceptional skills were complemented by 10 excellent digs and seven excellent receptions, further confirming her role as the driving force behind the team.

In the aftermath of Cheng's season-ending ACL tear, Rondina and her teammates rallied with unwavering spirit. Rondina emphasized the importance of working together, speaking up, and giving their all for the greater good of the team. She explained, "The good thing is that we're fighting these games for our absent teammates, like Des Cheng. Everything we do is for her and, of course, for our teammates."

Cheng's injury occurred during their previous victory against Cignal in Antipolo. The former La Salle standout's unfortunate fall required immediate assistance from her teammates and medical staff. The loss of Cheng's talent and experience was undeniably a significant setback for the Choco Mucho roster.

Nevertheless, the Flying Titans were determined not to let Cheng's absence define their season. The resilience displayed on the court was a testament to their dedication to her and their shared goal. Caitlyn Viray and Bea De Leon played pivotal roles in filling the void left by Cheng, contributing 11 and 10 points, respectively. Regine Arocha added eight points to enhance the team's performance.

Sisi Rondina shared her perspective on the team's outlook, stating, "As I've said, we do this for them, even without Des. We know that someone will step up for her. We'll do the work she used to do, and we'll stand by whatever happens. We're in this, and there's no turning back."

The Choco Mucho Flying Titans demonstrated that they are more than just a team; they are a family united by a shared love for the sport and an unwavering commitment to each other. As they continue their journey in the Premier Volleyball League, their resilience and determination serve as an inspiring example of what can be achieved when athletes unite to support and uplift one another in the face of adversity.
