Choco Mucho's journey has been a rollercoaster ride, marked by highs, lows, and a relentless pursuit of glory.
At the heart of this saga is Kat Tolentino, a stalwart presence since the team's inception in 2019.
Alongside Ateneo comrades Deanna Wong, Maddie Madayag, and Bea De Leon, Tolentino embarked on a path that would test the limits of their resilience.
The early years were challenging for the Flying Titans, punctuated by a series of fourth-place finishes and the bitter taste of seventh place on multiple occasions.
A litany of injuries and heartbreaks threatened to overshadow their dreams.
However, Tolentino and her comrades emerged from the shadows, their spirits unbroken, and a newfound determination ignited within them.
As the years unfolded, Choco Mucho faced trials that would define their character. Tolentino reflects on the arduous journey, stating, “I think it’s not just the series, but how long it’s taken for Choco Mucho to get to the finals is what I’m so thankful for.”
The breakthrough moment arrived as they clinched their first-ever finals appearance in franchise history, a testament to their unwavering commitment and perseverance.
Tuesday night witnessed an epic battle against a formidable Cignal squad, a clash that would determine their fate.
The Flying Titans left it all on the court, surviving a grueling four-set encounter, 25-20, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23, in Game 3 of the Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference semifinals.
For Tolentino, this victory symbolized the culmination of years of hard work and dedication.
Her leadership shone through as she contributed 17 points, showcasing her prowess with 15 attacks, an ace, and a crucial block that sealed the deal.
"It’s been a long journey, especially for me since I’ve been with them since the beginning, and just super grateful," she exclaimed, a mix of relief and jubilation in her voice.
The turning point for Choco Mucho came with the arrival of head coach Dante Alinsunurin and star open spiker Sisi Rondina.
Tolentino acknowledges their transformative impact on the team, saying, "It’s years of hard work with this team and very thankful for coach Dante and Sisi for coming in and bringing out the best in this team and again, super thankful."
As they revel in the glory of their first-ever podium finish in the PVL, Choco Mucho now faces their ultimate test – a showdown with defending champion Creamline.
Nine matchups over four years have yet to yield a victory against their sister squad. Despite the odds, Tolentino exudes confidence in her team's maturity, a product of their remarkable 10-game winning streak in the eliminations.
"I think the maturity of the team going into this whole season will definitely help us. I mean, we’ve gained so much confidence and just the growth even in the past few games, working together, and again learning and sticking to Coach Dante’s system because I think that’s really the key," Tolentino asserts.
The stage is set for a blockbuster series, and Tolentino believes that Choco Mucho is on the cusp of something extraordinary.
"We’ve constantly been trying to improve how we adapt, and I think we’re getting there. Hopefully, in the finals, we’ll be able to show even more."
