Cignal, Choco Mucho collide in battle of giants

Two of the Premier Volleyball League's powerhouse teams – Cignal and Choco Mucho – are set for an intense showdown on Thursday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig, promising an electrifying battle for early supremacy in the All-Filipino Conference.

The HD Spikers enter the 6:30 p.m. match on a high note, following commanding victories against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers (3-1) and Farm Fresh Foxies (3-0). Another win would not only extend their streak but also secure a tie at the top of the standings alongside the undefeated PLDT High Speed Hitters.

However, the HD Spikers face a formidable challenge from a resurgent Choco Mucho side. Known for their attacking firepower, the Flying Titans bounced back from a four-set loss to the Petro Gazz Angels by edging out the Galeries Tower Highrisers in five and dominating the Capital1 Solar Spikers in four to tie the Angels, the Akari Chargers and the Crossovers at 2-1.

Cignal's strategy hinges on its seasoned roster, led by Ces Molina, Roselyn Doria and Vanessa Gandler, alongside young talents like Jovelyn Fernandez and Judith Abil. Anchoring their net defense are middles Riri Meneses and Jackie Acuña, while league standouts Gel Cayuna and Dawn Catindig excel as playmaker and defensive specialist, respectively.

To keep their winning momentum in the conference organized by Sports Vision and backed by official health and beauty partner Watsons, the HD Spikers must contend with Choco Mucho's high-flying star Sisi Rondina and the consistent contributions of veterans like Royse Tubino, Isa Molde, Kat Tolentino and Cherry Nunag. Additionally, rookie Lorraine Pecana's strong presence at the net has added a new dimension to the Titans' game under coach Dante Alinsunurin.

Meanwhile, the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles aim to build on their recent breakthrough triumph against the Nxled Chameleons in their 4 p.m. showdown. With momentum on their side, the Thunderbelles are eyeing another win against the Galeries Tower Highrisers, who remain hungry for their first victory this season after a close five-set defeat to Choco Mucho.

Led by top rookie Thea Gagate, veteran Jovelyn Gonzaga and Kate Santiago, ZUS Coffee looks to capitalize on its form.

Meanwhile, Galeries Tower's stars, including Jewel Encarnacion and rookie Julia Coronel, will need to elevate their game to break out of a three-match losing streak.
