After navigating most of the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League season with a depleted lineup, Cignal HD Spikers continue to rebuild with a bang, officially welcoming outside hitter Heather Guino-o and middle blocker Ethan Arce to the fold.
The twin additions, announced Monday afternoon, came just days after the club secured the services of Tine Tiamzon, who is plotting a return to the PVL after a two-year break.
“Team Awesome is thrilled to welcome Heather Guino-o, a reliable scorer and steady presence on the wing, as she’s ready to make a significant impact with the Cignal HD Spikers in the next conference,” the team wrote in a Facebook post.
In a separate post, the team added: “From one red squad to another, Ethan Arce brings her strength, grit, and passion to the Cignal HD Spikers as we set our sights even higher next conference.”
Guino-o, a product of Far Eastern University, spent the last two conferences with Capital1 Solar Spikers, where she displayed flashes of her pre-pandemic form. She made an explosive start to the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference but saw her minutes dwindle as the tournament progressed.
Arce, meanwhile, joins Cignal after two seasons with Petro Gazz, where she had limited playing time behind a deep rotation of middle blockers. A former University of the Philippines standout, Arce became the second middle blocker to exit the Angels after KC Galdones' release.
With the HD Spikers in need of reinforcements following the surprise departures of longtime skipper Ces Molina and veteran middle Riri Meneses, Guino-o and Arce are expected to step into critical roles.
Both athletes will also find familiar ground as they reunite with head coach Shaq delos Santos — Guino-o having played under him during her early years at FEU, while Arce had a stint with him in his lone season at UP.
Now training with Cignal in full swing, the 27-year-old Guino-o and 24-year-old Arce are eyeing strong comebacks as the team targets a deeper run in the upcoming PVL conference.
