PLDT's quest for a spot in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference semifinals came tantalizingly close, concluding with a hard-fought victory against Petro Gazz. Despite finishing strong, the High-Speed Hitters landed in the fifth spot, narrowly missing the coveted Top Four with a commendable 7-4 record.
A standout presence throughout the conference was the formidable newcomer, Savannah Davison, whose impact on the PVL was nothing short of remarkable. The Filipino-Canadian spiker, who joined PLDT at the onset of the conference, quickly established herself as a linchpin for the team.
In a postgame interview following their thrilling five-set win, Davison expressed her eagerness to return for the PVL's next conference, hinting at a commitment to PLDT's continued success. "I'll be back for a little; I'm not going to tell you how long, but I'm going to stay with PLDT for the next conference. So hopefully, it's all growth from here on out."
Davison's lineage to PLDT/Smart VP First Vice President - Head of Sports Jude Turcuato added an intriguing layer to her narrative. In her final game, she delivered a stellar performance, accumulating 29 points, 15 receptions, and 10 digs.
Her debut in the Philippines saw Davison clinch the title of the league's top scorer at the end of the elimination round, showcasing her prowess with 202 points derived from 173 attacks, 22 blocks, and seven service aces. She also etched her name in the league's statistics, securing the third-best blocking performance with 0.55 per set, ranking seventh in spiking with a 32.28 percent success rate, and holding the seventh-best receiving efficiency at 34.32 percent.
With Davison seamlessly blending into the already formidable High-Speed Hitters club, both player and team are resolute in their determination to contend for the championship in the upcoming season. "We're definitely looking for a championship, so I think that's the main goal," affirmed the University of Oklahoma alumna.
While the championship remains a long-term aspiration, Davison remains focused on continuous improvement for the next season. "It always should be, but just like I said, just progress, growth. I just want to go day by day, kind of get one percent better. I think it was just the entirety of it," she emphasized, underscoring her commitment to ongoing development and success with PLDT in the PVL.
