Deanna Wong, the seasoned setter of Choco Mucho Flying Titans, showcased her prowess on the court after battling through a persistent knee injury that sidelined her for several games in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference. The Flying Titans soared to victory against Capital1 on Saturday night, with Wong reclaiming her starting position and guiding her team to a decisive win.
"Masaya na nakapaglaro na pero unti-unti pa rin," Wong expressed her joy at being back in action. "It’s more of the system talaga that we follow kaya kahit sino naman ipasok, nagagawa pa rin namin ‘yung kailangang gawin."
Wong's absence didn't deter the Flying Titans' momentum, thanks to the stellar performance of sophomore setter Mars Alba, who admirably stepped up to fill Wong's shoes. Under Alba's guidance, Choco Mucho achieved an impressive 6-1 start in the conference, showcasing the depth of talent within the team.
However, Wong's return injected a new energy into the team, evident in their commanding victory over the Solar Spikers at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex. Despite only playing in the first two sets, Wong contributed nine excellent sets and two crucial points, solidifying her importance to the team's success.
"Siguro po, it starts sa training naman lalo na sina Coach (Dante Alinsunurin) at saka ‘yung teammates ko, nandyan naman sila," Wong credited her teammates and coaching staff for their support. "It’s more of how we help each other kasi and how we bring up each other, and dahil naman sa kanila ‘yun."
Wong's return not only bolstered Choco Mucho's performance but also underscored the team's collective spirit and resilience. Despite uncertainties surrounding her playing time in future games, Wong remains focused on her recovery and contributing to the team's success.
“Siyempre alam naman nila coach kung pano ‘yung gagawin during game or kung anuman pong strategy na ginagawa," Wong acknowledged the guidance of her coach and emphasized the importance of prioritizing her health.
