Roma Joy Doromal propelled Galeries Tower to a historic triumph on Thursday, clinching the team's inaugural franchise victory in the Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference.
Confronting a formidable challenge, Doromal delivered an outstanding performance in her Highrisers uniform, contributing an impressive 15 points with 10 powerful attacks, three blocks, and two aces. The standout player played a crucial role in assisting her team in overcoming a two-set deficit, ultimately securing a hard-fought 18-25, 24-26, 25-23, 25-18, 15-11 victory over Gerflor at the Philsports Arena.
Starting the game with a disheartening nine-game losing streak, the former Perlas standout approached the match against the Defenders with a championship mindset, understanding the significance of achieving a win for the team.
"Of course, first and foremost, I am happy because we finally won. Perhaps our motivation was the genuine hunger to secure a victory – not just one set, but to win entirely. So, there you go, we gave you a championship, Coach (Lerma Giron). Five sets," expressed an elated Doromal.
Doromal's impact became even more apparent as she played a pivotal role in the Highrisers' impressive comeback from a 0-2 deficit. Initiating a 3-0 turnaround with a score off an overreception, she paved the way for Galeries to force a fourth set.
The National University graduate emphasized the team's reliance on captain Fhen Emnas for stability, particularly in the crucial fifth set.
"In that regard, I also felt what Ate Fhen (Emnas) said earlier, especially in the fifth set... Yes, there were crucial points with errors. But she said, let it go, nothing will change about that. You can't change it anymore," shared Doromal.
"What you can change is what will happen next. So, there you go, after securing three sets, it's like saying, here it is, we're giving it to you, take it. So that's what we did."
In the face of adversity, Doromal's leadership and exceptional performance not only secured a long-awaited victory for Galeries Tower but also showcased the team's resilience and determination in the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference.
