Eya Laure finds redemption during bronze medal match

During the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup, Eya Laure, an outside hitter for Alas Pilipinas Women, embarked on a journey of redemption and triumph that etched her name in Philippine volleyball lore.

After a disheartening setback in the semifinals against Kazakhstan, where Laure and her teammates fell short, she emerged from the ashes of defeat with a fierce determination to rewrite their narrative.

Struggling with her form in the crucial encounter, Laure's three-point performance stood as a stark contrast to her usual brilliance.

"Syempre sa bawat set, sa bawat pangit na laro, ang mindset lang namin sa susunod na laro ay makabawi sa susunod na lalaruin namin," shared Laure, reflecting on their semifinal defeat.

However, Laure refused to dwell on past disappointments. Instead, she channeled her frustration into a stellar display of resilience and skill in the bronze medal match against a formidable Australian side.

With unwavering resolve, she spearheaded her team's charge, delivering a masterclass performance that culminated in a historic victory.

Against all odds, Laure amassed 10 points, showcasing her prowess with eight powerful attacks and two crucial service aces.

Her contribution propelled Alas Pilipinas to clinch their maiden bronze medal in an AVC tournament, marking a watershed moment in the nation's volleyball history.

"Ako personally, alam kong pangit yung nilaro ko yesterday. Hindi ako nakaambag. Yun nga yung hinihiya ko kay Ate Sisi (Rondina) na parang na-sad ako kasi semis, tapos may naramdaman ako na biglaan kaya di ako maka-perform," confessed Laure, baring her emotions after the semifinal loss.

Yet, Laure's journey mirrored the collective spirit of Alas Pilipinas, a team that defied expectations and shattered barriers.

Despite their limited preparation time, they emerged as a force to be reckoned with, winning five out of six matches, including a dominant performance in the group stage.

"Nandito kami to play for our country, at masaya kami sa naging output kasi wala naman talaga kami masyadong inexpect," Laure emphasized, highlighting their unity and pride in representing the Philippines on the international stage.
