F2 silences Choco Mucho, closes in on semis

F2 Logistics silenced Choco Mucho and its horde of fans with a burst of hits from Aby Maraño and Kim Dy late in the fourth as the Cargo Movers delivered a key 25-23, 25-19, 13-25, 25-22 victory to zero in on the second semis slot on Tuesday.

The Cargo Movers bucked the loss of Myla Pablo, who cramped out early in the fourth, and the absence of middle Ivy Lacsina in the last three sets as they charged back from 14-17 down with a big closing 11-5 run anchored on Dy, who scored three of the team’s last four points to snatch the victory, their fifth against two defeats.

The loss, on the other hand, dampened the Flying Titans’ semis chances as they fell to 2-4 with only two games and four playdates left in the single round robin elims among nine teams.

But it was Maraño who spiked F2 Logistics’ fiery comeback as the former La Salle standout came through with a couple of running hits and a quick attack and Cha Behag scored on a kill as the Cargo Movers grabbed the lead at 18-17.

The Flying Titans forced two more deadlocks, both aided by the Cargo Movers’ flawed serves, before Majoy Baron hammered out a kill and scored on a kill block for a 21-19 F2 Logistics lead.

Choco Mucho did stay in the hunt, 21-22, on two hits against Dy’s off-the-block point but the latter punched another kill and Elaine Kasilag scored on her own off-the-block blast before Dy negated Maddie Madayag’s hit with her clincher of a spike.

“As what our coach had told us, it’s now or never, so we pushed it to the end,” said Dy, who finished with 23 points, including 19 kills.

Pablo posted a 15-point output after limping out following a hard hit as F2 moved to within, 8-10, while Maraño added 12 points in a rare explosive offensive outing for the team’s leader.

Middle Bea de Leon, scoring heavily on quick attacks, had 17 points while Kat Tolentino finished with 16 markers and Madayag added 12 points as Choco Mucho’s triple-tower threat came into the fore in the third set to extend the match.
