Farm Fresh capped off a Saturday of comebacks with a stunning 25-23, 25-21, 25-14 sweep over a shell-shocked Akari side, securing its first victory after three straight losses in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena.
While Capital1 rallied in four sets to upset Nxled earlier, the Foxies needed just one spirited comeback in the opening frame before taking complete control of the match, delivering a statement win in one hour and 25 minutes over one of the league’s top contenders.
Led by Trisha Tubu, who tallied 21 points, Farm Fresh displayed grit and composure, rallying from an eight-point deficit in the first set to turn the tide. Once settled, they controlled the next two sets, showing a level of cohesion and confidence absent in their previous outings.
Louie Romero orchestrated the offense masterfully with 19 excellent sets, while also chipping in five points, including three attacks, to dismantle Akari’s defense.
The Foxies’ blocking game and opportunistic plays capitalized on Akari’s unforced errors, particularly in the third set, where Farm Fresh pulled away to seal the win with an 11-point margin.
Tubu’s mature shot selection and timely cross-court hits were crucial, while teammates Rizza Cruz, Caitlyn Viray, Alyssa Bertolano, Aprylle Tagsip, and Maicah Larroza made notable contributions.
Romero, despite coming off an injury, credited the coaching staff for helping the team adjust and deliver a breakthrough performance.
“This week was extremely tough,” said Romero in Filipino. “I missed two days due to injury, but the coaching staff made significant adjustments to help us get this win. I just focused on playing my game, and it showed, but there’s still a lot to improve.”
Romero also highlighted the team’s meticulous preparation. “We studied their game carefully, learning how to neutralize their key players,” she added.
Meanwhile, Akari, which started the season strong with two wins, now finds itself reeling after back-to-back losses.
Coach Taka Minowa struggled to reignite his squad following their first-set collapse, leaving them vulnerable to Farm Fresh’s relentless attack.
