First-game jitters no match for Brooke Van Sickle

Brooke Van Sickle had already left her mark in the PNVF Champions League, but the butterflies fluttered anew as she made her Premier Volleyball League (PVL) debut.

The Filipino-American outside spiker, instrumental in guiding Petro Gazz to victory in the PNVF tournament on February 10, had already given the Filipino audience a taste of her prowess, clinching the Most Valuable Player and 1st Best Outside Spiker awards.

Now, in her PVL debut, the University of Hawaii standout showcased her skills with seven points and 10 digs, propelling the Angels to a dominant 25-12, 25-20, 25-12 victory over Strong Group.

Despite the win, Van Sickle acknowledged a bit of tension and first-game jitters.

Standing at 5 feet 8 inches, the power hitter reflected on the challenges of the debut, stating, "I felt we're a little tense, not really flowing as well. Probably first game jitters a little bit, but it's still really good to be able to start PVL with a win."

She attributed some comfort to her experience in the PNVF but acknowledged that the transition to the PVL brought its own set of nerves.

Looking ahead, the Angels are gearing up for a significant showdown against last conference's runner-up, Choco Mucho, scheduled for next Tuesday.

Van Sickle is optimistic about the upcoming challenge, emphasizing the need to address the issues that lingered against Strong Group Athletics, despite the decisive straight-sets victory in just 68 minutes.

Van Sickle expressed her awareness of the tough competition Choco Mucho presents, saying, "Choco Mucho, they're a very good team, and we're gonna expect a really good fight, and we just have to go through this week working extremely hard and continue to push that team chemistry."
