Savi Davison has proven herself as one of the most explosive scorers in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), and she’s showing no signs of slowing down.
The Fil-Canadian outside spiker delivered a career-high 34 points in PLDT’s five-set thriller against defending champion Creamline on February 15. Just two weeks later, she matched that mark—this time in only four sets—leading PLDT to a crucial victory over ZUS Coffee in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference qualifying round at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Since returning from her absence in the 2024 Reinforced Conference, Davison has been a woman on a mission. She has consistently put up high-scoring performances, emerging as the league’s top scorer by the end of the preliminary round. The 5-foot-10 University of Oklahoma product amassed 262 points, comprised of 236 spikes, 25 blocks, and an ace.
When asked about her motivation this season, Davison’s response was direct: “I want a championship.”
“I wanna be, you know, at that really top spot at the end of the season. I guess I’m really preparing for that, so hopefully, I’ll just keep performing until we get there when that time comes,” she added.
Beyond her individual brilliance, Davison’s efforts have helped PLDT regain its footing as the team gears up for the playoffs. Their 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 26-24 win over the Thunderbelles secured a quarterfinal berth against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, who are led by another offensive powerhouse—Sisi Rondina, the league’s second-leading scorer with 240 points.
PLDT knows the road ahead will be tough, but the team has embraced a new mentality heading into the postseason. “I think it was just a mentality shift from the preliminaries to the playoff round. Our coach told the team earlier that it’s a long road from here, so it’s best for us to set a standard. Hopefully, we move all the way up from here.”
As PLDT prepares for its best-of-three showdown against Choco Mucho, Davison is well aware of the challenge that Rondina presents.
“Obviously, Sisi’s a heavy hitter. She produces points for the team. I think the top thing that comes to my mind right now is controlling our side of the net and making sure she does not score, you know, as much as she typically does,” said Davison.
