Galeries Tower announced the promotion of assistant coach Godfrey Okumu to head coach on Friday.
Okumu, 57, returns to the Premier Volleyball League after his last head coaching stint with Motolite in 2019. He has been a steady presence with the Highrisers, serving as Giron’s assistant since the team entered the league in 2023.
“A familiar face. A trusted leader. Coach Godfrey Okumu returns to guide the Highrisers as Head Coach,” the team shared in a Facebook post.
The Highrisers’ roster features a blend of young talent and experience, led by 2025 PVL Rookie Draft second overall pick Jean Asis, sophomore standout Jewel Encarnacion, and veterans France Ronquillo and Ysa Jimenez.
Okumu inherits a team looking to bounce back after a challenging campaign in the PVL On Tour, where Galeries Tower went 0-5 in the preliminaries and was eliminated by Chery Tiggo in the knockout round.
With Okumu at the helm, the Highrisers aim to turn a new page ahead of the upcoming Reinforced Conference later this year.
