Jovelyn Gonzaga, a name that resonates with Filipino volleyball fans, is making a triumphant return to Cignal.
The announcement came on Wednesday, stirring excitement among supporters of the HD Spikers.
Gonzaga's journey in the Premier Volleyball League had a rough ending in the 2022 Reinforced Conference. Her Philippine Army team, despite their best efforts, suffered defeat in all eight of their matches. It was a challenging period for Gonzaga, but true champions never stay down for long.
In a bold move, Gonzaga opted to skip the Lady Troopers' participation in the 2023 Open Conference. She had her sights set on something bigger: the 32nd Southeast Asian Games beach volleyball event.
Determined to make her mark on the regional stage, Gonzaga devoted herself entirely to the preparation for the meet.
Before the pandemic halted the world of sports, Gonzaga had already left an indelible mark on the volleyball scene. She showcased her exceptional skills as a member of both the HD Spikers in another league and Army in the PVL.
Her final appearance for the latter took place in 2019.
Now, at 31 years old, Gonzaga is ready to embark on a new chapter of her volleyball career.
She eagerly awaits the opportunity to reunite with her close friend and teammate, Rachel Anne Daquis, in the familiar Cignal jersey. The bond between these two athletes extends beyond the court, and their camaraderie will undoubtedly fuel their on-court synergy.
Cignal's recent performance in the PVL All-Filipino Conference saw them finish in sixth place.
As they strive for even greater success, the addition of Gonzaga brings a fresh burst of energy and expertise to the team.
Joining her in the ranks is former Ateneo standout Vanie Gandler, further solidifying Cignal's impressive pool of wing spikers.
