Holding ground vs China a milestone, says Tots Carlos

Tots Carlos could not be more proud of how Creamline-Philippines performed against five-time AVC titlists China on Tuesday evening.

It might be a straight sets defeat but the Nationals fought down the line, 16-25, 22-25, 20-25, in the 2022 PNVF AVC Cup for Women at the PhilSports Arena.

"This is a really big team and playing well against them I think it's a big milestone for the team," said Carlos.

The first-time national team member Carlos produced a team-high 15 points, scoring seven each in the first two sets.

Michele Gumabao and Jema Galanza backstopped her with 11 points apiece to their names.

Captain Jia De Guzman, as well as head coach Sherwin Meneses, also return to the team after missing the game against Vietnam due to health reasons.

"Actually, we're really happy na naglaro kami nang maayos and you can really see na everytime we dig the ball, we spike, we're really happy. We're smiling," Carlos added, noting the Cool Smashers' "good vibes" mantra.

The Nationals will next face the 1-1 Iran and winless South Korea,  represented by high schoolers.

And Carlos has high hopes that the Philippines can advance to the quarterfinals.

"In terms of our confidence, I think the team can really fight naman talaga."

"We hope we're making the Filipinos proud."
