Jema Galanza cherishes hardest-earned title

There was nothing easy—nothing smooth—about the way Creamline Cool Smashers reclaimed their throne in the Premier Volleyball League 2026 All-Filipino Conference.

This was not the kind of championship built on dominance from start to finish. It was forged in setbacks, sharpened by doubt, and ultimately defined by redemption.

For Jema Galanza, the team’s 11th title carried a weight unlike any of the 10 that came before it. Not because it was prettier—but because it was harder.

“Para sa’kin, ito ‘yung happiest and [most] memorable na championship na napanalunan namin kasi ‘yung mga teams na natalo kami, naka-bawi kami ngayong conference,” Galanza shared after delivering a two-way masterclass in the title-clinching Game 2, where she finished with 12 points, 19 excellent digs, and 16 excellent receptions.

From the very beginning, the road hinted at turbulence.

Creamline stumbled out of the gates with a jarring loss to PLDT High Speed Hitters, immediately raising questions about their rhythm. But instead of unraveling, the Cool Smashers steadied themselves, stringing together five straight wins to restore order to their campaign.

Just as quickly, however, stability slipped away.

A surging Akari Chargers exposed cracks in their system, halting their momentum. Then came an even more damaging blow—a loss to Farm Fresh Foxies at a critical stretch of the preliminaries that tightened the standings and placed their playoff hopes in real danger.

With their backs pressed firmly against the wall, Creamline found life when it mattered most. Even without Galanza and Bernadeth Pons, they scraped past Cignal HD Spikers to force their way into the qualifying round—leaning not on star power, but on depth and collective resolve.

But the climb only grew steeper.

A rematch with Cignal in the next phase ended in another setback, dragging the Cool Smashers down into the unforgiving play-in stage—a scenario few expected for a perennial powerhouse.

That moment, however, became their pivot.

What followed was not just a survival run. It became a reckoning.

One by one, Creamline revisited the teams that had dealt them pain earlier in the conference—and rewrote those outcomes. They eliminated Akari in the play-ins, dismantled PLDT in the semifinals, and reignited a title push that once seemed out of reach.

Even when Cignal struck again, the Cool Smashers refused to fold. In a virtual knockout duel for the last Finals berth, they turned back Farm Fresh, completing a full-circle redemption arc that brought them back to the biggest stage.

Waiting for them there was the same team that had haunted them all conference long: Cignal.

Only this time, Creamline left no room for doubt.

No collapse. No hesitation. Just closure.

The Cool Smashers swept the Finals to seal the championship—completing a journey that demanded not just skill, but an unshakeable belief in one another.

“I mean, bago kami nakapasok talaga sa Finals, talagang dinaan namin lahat nung tumalo sa amin. And alam mo, ‘yun pa lang, parang nakaka-proud na. And na-prove din namin sa self namin na kaya talaga namin na mag-champion basta sama-sama kami,” Galanza reflected.

Behind the team’s collective triumph was a quieter, deeply personal battle.

Galanza entered the conference still navigating her way back from a career-threatening injury. She slowly regained form, only to suffer another setback—a knee injury that sidelined her during crucial stretches of the preliminaries and qualifying round.

“Yung injury kasi, well, di naman natin inaasahan yun eh… hindi mo ini-expect talaga na magkakaroon ng gano’n,” she admitted.

Yet her absence never fractured the team.

“Parang kahit nawala ako, di naman na-feel ng team na may kulang eh, kasi lahat talaga nag-contribute sa team.”

In the end, that became the defining thread of Creamline’s championship story.

Not perfection—but presence. Not invincibility—but unity.

“Sabi ko, sobrang pasasalamat talaga sa mga teammates ko, coaches… hindi kami nakukumpleto sa ibang games. Pero nagpe-perform sila, binibigay nila yung best nila.”

Through injuries, absences, and a gauntlet of unfinished business, Creamline didn’t just win a title.

They earned it—one act of redemption at a time.
