Jia De Guzman proud of Creamline's showing vs Choco Mucho

Creamline setter Jia De Guzman was all praises for her team's dominant performance against sister team Choco Mucho in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday night. She was delighted to see her teammates step up and help one another on the court, which resulted in a sweeping victory of 25-18, 25-13, and 25-14.

Creamline, who is now leading the league with a 3-0 win-loss record, had three players score in double digits in the match.

Michele Gumabao, Ced Domingo, and Jema Galanza all had 15 points each, with Galanza also recording 11 excellent digs and eight excellent receptions.

De Guzman, who played an outstanding game with 25 excellent sets, expressed her joy in seeing her teammates' remarkable performance. She commended their ability to cover for one another and to assist whenever someone struggles to score.

“I didn't know that they all scored 15 points, amazing. I'm very happy because everyone is really stepping up," said De Guzman, who played well once again and finished with 25 excellent sets and two points.

"If someone is having a hard time scoring, everyone is there to cover and help. Even if the second ball doesn't come from me, everyone knows how to set it. That's something I appreciate about the team," she added.

However, De Guzman mentioned that the team still misses their captain, Alyssa Valdez, on the court.

"We still miss having ate Ly [Valdez] inside the court but at the same time we know that as a team, we need to level up our game to win the following games," said the former Ateneo star.

Despite this, she was glad to see everyone contributing and filling the void left by the three-time PVL Most Valuable Player.

The Creamline setter acknowledged that the team needs to improve their performance from the service line and communication inside the court, especially after bumping into each other a few times during the match. De Guzman believes that controlling their unforced errors and miscommunications would help the team improve in their following games.

Creamline's strong start this season has given them an edge in the standings, but De Guzman and her teammates know that they need to level up their game and continue to work hard to secure their spot in the playoffs.

With the team's unity and determination, they are hopeful that they can continue their winning streak and bring home the championship trophy.
