Jia De Guzman's vision for Philippine volleyball

In the world of international volleyball, continuity and long-term preparation are not just strategies but essential foundations for success.

This philosophy has been passionately championed by Jia De Guzman, the seasoned playmaker known for her strategic prowess on the court.

Two years ago, during the 2022 AVC Cup for Women where the Philippines was represented by the Creamline Cool Smashers, De Guzman emphasized the significance of sustained development within the national program. Reflecting on their journey and a commendable sixth-place finish, she attributed their cohesion and performance to the chemistry nurtured through club-level engagements.

"Mas angat talaga dito is long-term preparation, long-term system, yun talaga ang magpapa-angat sa Philippine volleyball," emphasized the eight-time PVL Best Setter, currently showcasing her skills in Japan's V.League with Denso.

Fast forward to today, De Guzman assumes a pivotal role as captain of Alas Pilipinas, where she continues to advocate for sustained growth within the national team setup.

"We're going up against teams na tumanda sa loob ng national team. Tayo naman, yun rin 'yung goal natin, na tumanda kaming magkasama sa loob ng national team," shared the 29-year-old leader.

This focus on longevity is pivotal, aiming not just for immediate success but for enduring chemistry and strength over time.

The team's recent participation in the AVC and FIVB Challenger Cups marks a milestone in their journey.

Looking ahead, Alas Pilipinas eyes upcoming challenges in the SEA V-League and the prestigious SEA Games, aiming to consolidate their roster with new talents while retaining core players.

De Guzman remains steadfast in her belief that consistency and patience are key to building a formidable national team.

"You can't expect that sa isang talo, sa isang adversity, palit agad. You keep the same people, add some new people to reinforce the team. That's how you make a team strong," she emphasized.
