Khat Bell looks to make Chery Tiggo her second home

In the wake of a gut-wrenching exit from the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference, American import Khat Bell has set her sights on a comeback next year, reaffirming her commitment to the Philippine volleyball scene.

Despite the heartache of Chery Tiggo’s knockout quarterfinals defeat, where they fell to PLDT in a nail-biting five-set match, Bell’s resolve to return is stronger than ever.

The 31-year-old Bell was a powerhouse for the Crossovers, putting on an electrifying performance in the quarterfinals. Her relentless energy and skill were on full display as she racked up an impressive 40 points, but it wasn’t enough to secure victory.

Chery Tiggo’s valiant effort ended in a 23-25, 27-25, 25-15, 18-25, 9-15 loss, leaving the team’s hopes dashed.

Bell, however, is looking forward to the future with a determined spirit. The dynamic outside hitter has already mapped out her plans for the upcoming season. She has inked contracts with Athletes Unlimited and League One Volleyball (LOVB) Austin, ensuring her place in two prominent volleyball leagues. Athletes Unlimited, known for its unique player ranking system, will see Bell join fellow stars such as Thai setter Nootsara Tomkom and former Petro Gazz import Lindsey Vander Weide.

“My commitment to LOVB Austin starts in November, with a two-year contract,” Bell shared. “Athletes Unlimited will also keep me busy in the States. The great thing about this is that if the PVL Reinforced Conference schedule aligns with my commitments, I’d love to return to the Philippines during the break.”

Bell’s desire to make the Philippines her second home is evident. She envisions a season split between playing in the PVL during the summer and returning to the U.S. for the cooler months. “Playing here in the summer and then heading back to the States for the cooler season—that’s the plan. I’m committed to being here every Reinforced Conference if the schedule allows,” she said.

This season, Bell was a standout, finishing as the third-best scorer in the league after the preliminary round with a remarkable total of 200 points, including 182 attacks, 14 blocks, and four aces. Her prowess extended beyond scoring; she ranked fourth in spiking efficiency and seventh in blocking, and was honored with the role of captain for the Crossovers—a rare accolade for an import.

Despite the early exit from the tournament, Bell’s gratitude for her experience with Chery Tiggo shines through. “It’s disappointing, of course, but I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of Chery Tiggo. The support and warmth from the team have been overwhelming. It feels like home,” Bell reflected. “The opportunity has been amazing, and I’m just blessed to be here.”
