KingWhale head coach glad to get chance to face best PVL teams

KingWhale head coach Teng Yen-Min was elated to see her wards overcome the pressure in the team's three-set triumph over Army-Black Mamba.

The Taipei-based club sealed a tightly-fought opener before eventually taking a pressure-packed third frame to turnback the gritty Lady Troopers, 26-2425-1826-24, for a successful debut.

According to Teng, the team, which plays in the Taiwan Enterprise League, was surprised with how big the SM Mall of Arena was. In the end, she's just glad that the team managed to overcome the jitters and fend off Army.

"It's exciting, the first game. The Army team, we feel they're strong. And a big venue, because in Taiwan, we never played in a big venue. So it's the first time. So some of the players felt afraid. But, happy and it was exciting," Teng told reporters after the match.

"This is the first time that KingWhale mixed the young players and old players, in this tournament in the Philippines. The combination was a little different in Taiwan," she added.

Brazilian reinforcement Beatriz Flavio de Carvalho fired 13 from the attack line to finish with 14 points while team captain Liao Yi-Jen threw 22 excellent sets to lead the Taiwanese club.

"Happy, and they were fighting. They're happy that the PVL invited KingWhale Taipei to go here."
