KingWhale setter Liao Yi-Jen said that she learned a lot from going up against the best playmakers in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference.
The fan-favorite Liao had the opportunity to play against the likes of Rhea Dimaculangan, Jia De Guzman, Gel Cayuna, and Ivy Perez in the semifinals.
But despite the tough field, the KingWhale skipper managed to bring home the Best Setter award after averaging 6.18 excellent sets per frame.
“Coming here to the Philippines, I think that every single one of the teams is very strong and did very well and it really is a learning experience for us this time,” said the 26-year-old setter.
“I completely did not expect to win the award. I think every one of the setters are very good and very unique and I really learned a lot from them,” Liao added.
Liao, though, singled out De Guzman as the player who impressed her the most during the Taiwanese club’s short stint in the Invitationals.
“Creamline’s setter. She’s just amazing with how she performs,” she said.
KingWhale, who swept the entire semifinals en route to the finals, was handed a straight sets loss by Creamline.
