Macandili-Catindig deflects credit to teammates after 43-dig outing

The FilOil EcoOil Centre erupted in thunderous applause as F2 Logistics libero Dawn Macandili-Catindig showcased her exceptional defensive skills during a thrilling match against the Cignal HD Spikers last Saturday. The dynamic athlete's remarkable performance not only led her team to a resounding four-set victory in the Invitational Conference but also secured her a place in the history books as she set the record for the most excellent digs in the professional era of the Premier Volleyball League.

With an astonishing tally of 48 excellent digs and 15 excellent receptions, Macandili-Catindig dominated the court, leaving spectators in awe of her unwavering determination and unparalleled athleticism.

However, in true humble fashion, the former La Salle star modestly downplayed her individual achievement, attributing her success to the collective efforts of her teammates. She acknowledged the crucial role played by the team's blockers, whose impeccable execution allowed her to navigate the court with ease.

When asked about her remarkable performance, Macandili-Catindig expressed her gratitude to her teammates, saying, "Well, I'm just doing my job. I'm also thankful to my teammates because I wouldn't be able to defend if the blockings were chaotic."

Her unwavering dedication to her role as a libero exemplifies her commitment to the team's success.

Macandili-Catindig revealed that F2 Logistics had strategically focused on their defense in response to Cignal setter Angel Cayuna's impressive ball distribution observed during the HD Spikers' previous four-set victory.

Aware of the formidable attacking prowess of their opponents, Macandili-Catindig and her teammates diligently studied Cignal's gameplay and adjusted their strategies accordingly. The libero's exceptional defensive skills, combined with the team's solid blocking, resulted in a seamless defensive effort that left their opponents struggling to find gaps in their armor.

Macandili-Catindig shared, "In this game, my mindset was that we knew Cignal was also persistent and their setter was skilled in distributing the ball, so the attacking percentage was really high."

"Especially in their first game, they had a lot... they really had numerous attacks, so we really studied them. Thankfully, our blocking was on point. I was just quick in defending from the back," she added, shedding light on the team's preparation and her crucial role in stifling the opposition's offense.

With their impressive 2-0 start in Pool B following the league's VNL break, Macandili-Catindig emphasized the importance of maintaining their intensity and teamwork in their upcoming matches.

She acknowledged the value of every experience gained on the court, stating, "Of course, we're thankful for the win, and we'll take the experience with us because we adjust every set. We'll carry the experience forward to the next games."

Her unwavering determination and relentless pursuit of excellence serve as an inspiration to her teammates and fans alike.

As the Premier Volleyball League continues to showcase exceptional talent, Dawn Macandili-Catindig's awe-inspiring performance stands as a testament to the power of dedication and teamwork.

With each dig, reception, and defensive maneuver, she solidifies her place as one of the league's premier liberos.
