Marina Tushova leads Capital1's charge towards playoff glory

In a stunning display of individual brilliance, Marina Tushova has become the driving force behind Capital1’s surge in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference.

As the young and ambitious squad inches closer to securing a playoff berth, Tushova’s record-breaking performance has put them firmly in the spotlight.

On Saturday night, Tushova etched her name into PVL history once again, surpassing her own scoring record with an astounding 49 points in Capital1’s dramatic five-set victory over Nxled.

Her offensive prowess was instrumental in the Solar Spikers’ reverse sweep of the Chameleons, and yet, Tushova remains focused on the collective effort required to achieve their playoff dreams.

“I need all of my team to be fully committed in these last two games. I can’t do it alone; I want them to know that I’m here, but now I want them to give it their all in the next few games,” Tushova said.

Despite battling right arm pain a day before her historic performance, the 25-year-old outside hitter was a formidable force on the court.

Tushova’s contributions included 46 attacks, two aces, and one block, showcasing a 50.5 percent attacking efficiency.

Her performance dwarfed the efforts of her teammates, who combined for 37 points, with setter Iris Tolenada contributing seven points.

“I want all of them to feel that they can score points. I want to be there to support them, but please, try to do it on your own first,” Tushova added.

With the Solar Spikers on the cusp of their first-ever playoff appearance in franchise history, Tushova’s leadership is more crucial than ever.

The team’s quest for their fifth win will determine their playoff fate, and Tushova is urging her teammates to harness their inner drive.

“We need to work on everything—physical conditioning, ball work, everything. I hope that in the next games, more of the girls will feel that fire inside and improve because after these games, we’re going to face much tougher challenges,” she said.
