F2 Logistics' rookie playmaker Mars Alba left spectators in awe during her professional debut in the highly anticipated 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference. However, the humble newcomer deflected the credit to her veteran teammates, acknowledging their pivotal role in her stellar performance.
Alba, entrusted with a starting role for the Cargo Movers, showcased her talent on the court, amassing 14 excellent sets and contributing five crucial points. Leading her team to a resounding 25-22, 25-20, 25-23 victory over Farm Fresh, Alba's presence was undeniable at the Filoil EcoOil Centre on Tuesday.
During the post-match press conference, the young playmaker expressed her gratitude towards her experienced teammates, emphasizing their indispensable guidance in her transition from the amateur to the professional ranks. With humility and excitement evident in her voice,
Alba shared her thoughts, saying, "It's overwhelming. I'm happy because it's not only our first game, but also our first win in the PVL. I'm also thrilled because our 'elder sisters' are there to guide us rookies."
As the best setter of UAAP Season 85, Alba acknowledged the positive impact of playing alongside seasoned athletes, boosting her confidence on the court.
She highlighted the crucial role of the veterans, stating, "Of course, it makes me happy and it boosts my confidence in playing knowing that we have veterans who guide us well"
F2 Logistics head coach Regine Diego, displaying unwavering trust in Alba's abilities, made the bold decision to include her in the starting lineup. Diego also expressed her satisfaction with the seamless connection Alba has forged with veteran setter Kim Fajardo, anticipating the rookie's continued growth under Fajardo's seasoned guidance.
"I've known her for the longest time, and I really trust her. Moreover, I know that Kim [Fajardo] is going to be there to support her. Kim has been supporting her even during training," commented Diego, exuding confidence in the partnership between the two talented setters.
"It's wonderful to see that she can learn from Kim, and vice versa."
