PLDT is gearing up for the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference with significant roster updates.
High Speed Hitters head coach Rald Ricafort confirmed that middle blocker Mika Reyes will make her comeback after recovering from a shoulder injury that sidelined her for the season-opening All-Filipino Conference.
However, the team will be without veteran playmaker Rhea Dimaculangan, who is currently on a honeymoon abroad until September following her recent marriage to Raymond Villarete.
Ricafort expressed optimism about Reyes' return, highlighting her addition to the middle blocker rotation alongside Majoy Baron, Jessey De Leon, and Rachel Austero.
He noted that Reyes' comeback balances the team's lineup, especially with starting middle blocker Dell Palomata temporarily loaned to the national team.
On the acquisition of setter Angge Alcantara in the PVL Rookie Draft, Ricafort explained that Dimaculangan's absence influenced their decision to secure additional depth in the setter position.
Alcantara, who had been training with the team prior to the draft, impressed during workouts and is seen as a valuable backup to starting playmaker Kim Fajardo.
Regarding star opposite spiker Kianna Dy, who continues her recovery from a right knee injury sustained last year, Ricafort provided updates on her rehabilitation progress.
Despite the complexities of her injury, the team remains patient and aims for a gradual return to play, targeting October as a realistic timeline.
Ricafort emphasized the team's cautious approach with Dy's recovery to avoid setbacks, prioritizing her long-term health and readiness.
