Mika Reyes gets fresh start with PLDT

Mika Reyes has decided to join PLDT Home Fibr for the upcoming 2022 Premier Volleyball League season.

After attracting offers from numerous teams, the 27-year-old native of Pulilan, Bulacan said that PLDT offered her a "fresh start".

Reyes is a former player of Sta. Lucia -- a team that took a leave of absence for the season.

"Siguro from all the years that I've been with different teams, adapting to change has been something na natutunan ko na talaga and yung isa sa nagpapa-excite sa akin ay yung mga makakasama ko dito sa team, a chunk of it are people I'm close with so that really helps a lot na may mga sobrang kilala na ako na mga makakasama ko," she said. "Extra comfortability na din ba. New team, fresh start pero same goal pa rin naman kahit san ako magpunta, to learn as much as I can and be able to contribute in any way I can."

In PLDT, Reyes gets to reunite with the likes of Rhea Dimaculangan, Dell Palomata, and Jovie Prado which made her decision much easier.

"Kasi they were very patient and persistent and yun palang I felt the warmth ng team, backed up syempre by the people that are close to me na makakasama ko dun plus yung team composition feel ko maggrow ako dun at may maitutulong na rin ako because they said they were lacking a Middle Blocker," she said. "I also know that PLDT has been supporting volleyball for so many years already which speaks of their commitment to the development of the sport kahit ano man ang mangyari."

Other new recruits of PLDT are Kath Arado, Jessey De Leon, Mean Mendrez, Wendy Semana, Fiola Ceballos, and Lhara Clavano.

Besides Dimaculangan, other holdovers from last season are Chin Basas, Eli Soyud, and Nieza Viray.

The High Speed Hitters also tapped a new coach in George Pascua.

For Reyes, the main goal right now is to adapt to Pascua's system as the PVL is looking at a tentative February 16 start date for the Open Conference.

"I think this lineup has been carefully selected talaga by the management," she said about the team managed by Bajjie Del Rosario and part of the MVP Group. "They really put in so much effort to come up with their best mix of players possible so just like any other team na may bago, yung challenge is yung pag-adapt sa system and chemistry in and out the court.

"But with Coach George, experienced coach na rin siya before, I trust that we will all learn a lot from him plus having great leaders like Ate Rhea should glue the team closer din"
