Mika Reyes out for AFC

Mika Reyes will miss the entire 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.

The revelation was made official by PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort during the PVL Media Day held at the TV5 Media Center on Monday night.

The setback for Reyes comes as a result of a meticulous decision to undergo an operation, a move aimed at addressing a persistent shoulder injury that has been plaguing her since the previous year.

Ricafort, while addressing members of the press, provided insights into Reyes's rehabilitation journey, stating, “Si Mika, nagre-rehab. Ngayong conference? Hindi, hindi siya makakalaro. Nag-ano siya, operation. Same pa rin ng dati.”

While specifics about the duration of her absence remain uncertain, Coach Ricafort affirmed that she will be sitting out the upcoming conference.

This news, undoubtedly disappointing for fans, opens the door for a recalibration of the team dynamics as they face the challenges ahead.

With the absence of their star player, the focus now shifts to the emergence of newcomer Majoy Baron, who is tasked with filling the significant gap left by Reyes in the team's roster.

Ricafort, a seasoned mentor with a history of PVL success, expressed confidence in Baron's abilities, stating, "Sakto naman nga kasi si Majoy (Baron) naman yung pumalit so kahit papaano kung hindi ‘man better pa, okay naman din."

In addition to Baron, the PLDT High Speed Hitters will be relying on the talents of Dell Palomata, Rachel Austero, and Jessey De Leon to fortify the team's middle.
