Wilma Salas is back on Philippine soil — and this time, she's donning new colors.
The PLDT High Speed Hitters have officially welcomed the Cuban wing spiker as one of their reinforcements for the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League, the team announced Thursday morning.
“Wilma Salas arrived in the Philippines last night and is set to join the PLDT High Speed Hitters in training and play for the squad in the AVC Women’s Champions League starting April 20,” read the club’s post on social media.
Salas, a 34-year-old volleyball veteran, is no stranger to the Philippine scene. She made an indelible mark during her first stint in 2019, leading Petro Gazz to its maiden Premier Volleyball League (PVL) title in the Reinforced Conference. That same season, she was named the PVL Best Foreign Player — a testament to her dominance and impact on the court.
The 6-foot-2 outside hitter returned to the Angels' fold for the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference, where she helped the team to a sixth-place finish. Now, with a new mission and a new team, Salas is looking to reignite her winning ways under the PLDT banner.
The High Speed Hitters will be one of three PVL squads flying the Philippine flag in the prestigious continental club tournament, which will run from April 20 to 27 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City. PLDT has been placed in Pool D, where they will face Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima QminC and Australia’s Queensland Pirates.
Joining PLDT in the tournament are PVL powerhouse Creamline and fellow contender Petro Gazz, as the Philippines hosts some of Asia’s best clubs in the week-long competition.
