Candon City hosted the Premier Volleyball League for the first time on Saturday, which saw F2 Logistics and Petro Gazz emerge triumphant in the Second All-Filipino Conference.
The Cargo Movers defeated the Highrisers, 25-15, 25-22, 25-17, while the Angels topped Nxled, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22, in front of 5,251 fans at the brand-new Candon City Arena on Saturday.
Before the third leg of the PVL on Tour, the four clubs had a meet and greet at the University of Ilocos Philippines last Friday, with over 1,000 students attending the affair. A lucky few had the opportunity to ask questions to their favorite PVL stars.
Additionally, there was a two-day referees’ clinic conducted by international referee Jeffrey Lopez, attended by 42 Candon City barangay representatives to better prepare them for their respective local leagues.
On Saturday morning, before the games, attendees were over the moon when they had the opportunity to step onto the official PVL court for their practical exam.
The PVL on Tour also launched its "Meet the PVL Coaches” program, attended by almost 50 practicing coaches from the Department of Education.
It was an intimate session where local coaches exchanged knowledge with PVL coaches, Nxled assistant mentor Vilet Ponce de Leon and Petro Gazz head of volleyball operations Oliver Almadro, shared practical coaching tools gathered from their personal experiences.
"This is a collaborative effort of the LGU of Candon and the Premier Volleyball League not only to bring exciting games but also to put in the effort and time to grow the game locally," said PVL President Ricky Palou.
