PVL chairman Moying Martelino, 86, passes away

Sports Vision Management Group Incorporated chairman Mauricio 'Moying' Martelino (March 21, 1935-September 22, 2021) passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning.

He was 86.

Martelino was one of the pillars of SVMGI, helping form the group in 2004 along with the late Jun Bernardino, Ricky Palou, and Rhea Navarro.

SVMGI is the group behind the Premier Volleyball League and the Spikers' Turf.

Besides his love for volleyball, Martelino was also involved in various sports that made him a true sportsman.

Martelino was the secretary-general of Philippine Bowling and, later on, secretary-general of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas' predecessor Basketball Association of the Philippines.

Martelino was also the executive director of the 1978 FIBA World Championship.

During the 90s, Martelino was the secretary-general of the Asian Basketball Confederation.

For his work in basketball, the International Basketball Federation gave Martelino an Order of Merit award back in 1999. He is just one of six officials from FIBA Asia to receive the award.

In the early 2000s, Martelino would be one of the founders of Sports Vision Management Group Inc. - the company behind the Premier Volleyball League.

The Ateneo product then served as lead consultant for the SBP in the 2010s. His group helped organize numerous FIBA events in the country.

He is survived by sons Ramon and Letlet and daughter Tina.
