The Premier Volleyball League has welcomed Watsons Philippines as its official health and beauty partner on Tuesday afternoon.
The ceremonial contract signing held at the Philsports Arena was attended by the top officials from both sides.
Present for the country’s first and only professional league were PVL President Ricky Palou, Commissioner Sherwin Malonzo, and Marketing Director Fred Fateh.
Representing the country’s leading health, beauty, and lifestyle brand are Chief Operating Officer Jefferson Go, Marketing, PR and Sustainability Controller Sharon Decapia, and Customer Director Jared de Guzman.
For Go, pursuing this partnership with the PVL was a no-brainer, calling it a “match made in heaven”.
“This collaboration between Watsons and the PVL is truly a match made in heaven. A partnership that brings together two leaders in their respective fields, serving up the best for our community,” shared Go.
“While PVL has captivated the nation with the incredible energy and talent of its athletes, we at Watsons believe we can take this league to even greater heights with our expertise in health and beauty and our deep connection with our customers, we are here to help sustain and strengthen the players’ ability to excel on the court and beyond, and to enrich the experience of every passionate PVL fan who cheers them on,” he continued.
Palou remarked that having Watsons as a new partner of the league is an honor.
According to Fateh, this collaboration produces a lot of firsts for the league including having Watsons as the first sponsor to etch their logo on the taraflex come the 2024-25 All Filipino Conference playoffs.
Meanwhile, this is the first time Watsons partnered with a sports league - a proof of how volleyball has risen over the years.
“We’re here today to welcome a new partner in the Premier Volleyball League in Watsons Philippines. I’m sure they need no introduction. It is an honor for us to have Watsons here today in this ceremonial signing for this contract,” said the PVL President.
“This is a number of firsts for the PVL. Accessing players through the league is a first. It’s a first time we actually let sponsors benefit from using PVL players and also it’s going to be a first time we’re putting a logo of a sponsor on the floor which will come towards the playoffs,” shared Fateh.
De Guzman and Decapia shared how this partnership first came to mind of Watsons.
Also attending the event were PLDT’s Kianna Dy and Farm Fresh’s Jolina Dela Cruz - the new faces of Watsons along with Akari’s Fifi Sharma who could not make the event.
“The story goes that Jefferson (Go) and I were watching one of the PVL games and we realized that all of the women were wearing colored hair so we said ‘oh, that’s interesting’ and we found all the audience watching PVL are Watsons customers and that exactly how it started. It started because the partnership was just perfect for each other,” recalled De Guzman.
“I think it was emphasized earlier that sports and of course our athletes really bring to life the brand promise of Watsons of ‘Looking Good, Doing Good, and Feeling Great’ so it just makes perfect sense,” added Decapia.
