The Premier Volleyball League plans to implement new rules to reduce match durations for the upcoming Second All-Filipino Conference.
The league's competition director Sherwin Malonzo announced these changes during a press conference held in Pasig City.
One of the primary changes is reducing technical timeouts in each set from two to one. This single technical timeout will occur after one of the teams scores 13 points and will last for one to two minutes.
Teams will also have only one regular timeout and one 30-second timeout for each set.
Additionally, coaches will be allowed to communicate with their players during video challenges.
“Yung video challenge, it’s gonna be the same, dalawa pa rin. Dalawa per set and hanggat tama kayo sa video challenge, hindi siya mababawasan so yung next changes is pwede niyo ng kausapin yung players niyo during video challenges. Lalapit sa coach, pwede naman while doing the video challenge,” said Malonzo.
Teams will change courts only once during each game, right after the second set, with a three-minute break, while other breaks between sets will last for five minutes.
In terms of the competition format, it will remain the same as the previous All-Filipino Conference, with all 12 teams participating in a single round-robin elimination.
The top four teams will proceed to the semifinals, where they will compete in a best-of-three series to determine the finalists for the gold medal and second runner-up matches.
