Rebisco, Choco Mucho set for AVC Clubs clash

Philippine club teams Rebisco and Choco Mucho were dealt defeats at the hands of powerhouse Thai clubs that set up a showdown between both teams.

Rebisco and Choco Mucho suffered sweeps at the hands of Nakhon Ratchasima QminC (11-25, 19-25, 18-25) and Supreme Chonburi (13-25, 22-25, 21-25), respectively, in the 2021 Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship crossover quarterfinals, Monday at Terminal 21 Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Coming off a 31-point outing in their five-set win against Zhetysu yesterday, Moksri Chatchu-on followed it up with another impressive performance of 10 points.

But it was Chatsuda Nilapa and Kuttika Kaewpin who did most of the damage with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Thai-German Karina Krause also netted nine points, off running attacks.

Former BaliPure player Ivy Lacsina, after very limited minutes the past two games, made her presence felt this time. She unloaded powerful quick kills and solid defense at the net for Rebisco, getting a team-high nine points.

Faith Nisperos had six points while Aby Mara?o and Chery Tiggo's Dindin Santiago-Manabat delivered four apiece.

The Thais pulled away from a close 16-14 contest via six unanswered points. Then they ultimately bagged the third salvo, 25-18.

Later in the day, Chery Tiggo's Mylene Paat had a field day, going for 14 points. Still, her efforts could not prevent Choco Mucho from dropping its third consecutive match.

Down 13-19 in the third set, the Filipinas tried to stage an uprising with four straight markers. But Supreme Chonburi still had answers in them to take the win.

After a through-the-block hit from Kalei Mau to tie things up at 21 in the second frame, Kanthong and Thinkaow connived for a quick 4-1 swing to move on the verge of a sweep.

Already ahead 9-7, Supreme Chonburi then took its play up a notch, unloading a 16-6 surge to easily get the first canto, 25-13.

Kalei Mau led the Filipinas anew with 16 points, including two block kills.

The Rebisco-Choco Mucho game takes place on Wednesday at 1:30PM.
