Regine Diego grateful to staff for crucial challenges

In a heart-stopping encounter at the Philsports Arena, the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers emerged victorious in a five-set showdown against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans during the 2023 Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference. Head coach Regine Diego praised her coaching staff for their instrumental role in the team's sensational comeback.

Facing a 1-2 set deficit, F2 Logistics showcased resilience and determination, eventually outlasting their formidable opponents in a grueling match that lasted 2 hours and 37 minutes. The exhilarating battle unfolded before a roaring crowd of 7,067 spectators, who amplified the intensity and humidity on the playing court.

Down 13-14 in the decisive fifth set, the Cargo Movers were on the brink of defeat. However, fate intervened when Kianna Dy's crosscourt attack missed its mark, seemingly handing victory to Choco Mucho. Unbeknownst to many, Diego's astute coaching staff spotted a potential net touch violation. Acting swiftly, they initiated a challenge, which turned out to be successful, giving F2 Logistics a lifeline.

From that pivotal moment, both teams traded powerful hits and fought tooth and nail. But it was the collective efforts of Mars Alba, Jolina Dela Cruz, and Ivy Lacsina that ultimately propelled the Cargo Movers to secure a thrilling 18-16 triumph over the Flying Titans.

Diego commended her coaching staff for their meticulous attention to detail, highlighting their role in spotting Choco Mucho's violation, a crucial turning point in the match. The victory showcased the team's unity and highlighted the importance of teamwork.

"Our coaching staff actually has responsibilities and they have their own jobs inside the court. I'm coaching... well, maybe I'm just the person standing up, but we were working on it," shared Diego, acknowledging the collective effort behind the scenes. "We talked about it, almost every rotation was discussed with the coaching staff. It was really a teamwork thing, so kudos to my coaching staff, you guys are the best."

Diego also expressed her gratitude to the team's strength and conditioning staff, led by coach Sonny Montalvo, for keeping the players in peak physical condition. The demanding match tested the athletes' endurance, and their training paid off as they demonstrated remarkable stamina throughout the grueling encounter.

The victory, while morale-boosting, did not lead to complacency. Diego urged her team to remain focused as they prepare to solidify their spot in the semifinals against Petro Gazz on Thursday. The seasoned coach emphasized the importance of recovery and ensuring the players are mentally and physically ready for the challenges that lie ahead.

"While it's good to celebrate because a win is a win, and that win is amazing, it's not the end yet," Diego reminded her team. "All we have to do is remind these girls that we have to recover more because our next game is on Thursday. So recovery is everything."
