Petro Gazz middle blocker Remy Palma reminded her team to stay focused on their goal after they secured a spot in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference semifinals on Thursday night.
Palma scored 13 points, including three blocks, during the team’s four-set win over Akari at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Despite the victory, Palma emphasized the importance of finishing strong in their final game of the elimination phase against Chery Tiggo on Tuesday. She explained that gaining momentum ahead of the semifinals is critical and that winning against Chery Tiggo will ensure that the team is well-prepared for the next phase of the tournament.
“Every day, every practice, we always say ‘one day at a time, one game at a time,’” Palma said. “It’s up to us if we want to take advantage of the opportunities that are given to us. So we need to work hard continuously because if we make it to the semifinals but don’t do our best, then all of our hard work will be for nothing.”
Petro Gazz, which tied with F2 Logistics at the second spot with identical 5-2 records, became the second team to enter the semifinals after Creamline, thanks to their superior set ratio.
Palma also revealed that the team is excited to put on a show for Ilonggos at the San Agustin Gymnasium in Iloilo City, where they will play their only out-of-town match this conference. Petro Gazz and Chery Tiggo will open the league’s match at 4:00 PM, followed by the Creamline-Akari match at 6:30 PM.
“Traveling to Iloilo is an excellent opportunity for us to give the locals a good game,” Palma said. “We need to prepare even more because the competition level is higher, and we want to perform our best.”
As Petro Gazz advances to the semifinals, it will need to maintain their focus and momentum to secure a spot in the finals. The Angels' determination and hard work will be crucial in their quest to become the 2023 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference champions.
