Sammy Acaylar aims to bring championship charm to Gerflor

Sammy Acaylar, the coach of the Gerflor Defenders in the upcoming PVL All-Filipino Conference, is on a mission to share his championship-winning experience with the team. Acaylar, who is considered a "lucky charm" as a champion coach, expressed his desire to bring success to the struggling team.

The Gerflor Defenders had a tough season in the previous conference, finishing 12th without a single win. Their upcoming campaign will be a significant challenge, but Acaylar is determined to make a positive impact.

Acaylar understands that turning the team's fortunes around won't be an overnight process. Only two players, team captain Pia Sarmiento and outside hitter Mary Angelei Jingco, remain from the previous season.

Katrina Racelis, Mary Grace Berte, Menchie Tubiera, Jhona Rosal, Kimberly Manzano, Jenny Gaviola, Satrriani Espiritu, and Shyra Mae Umandal are some of the new Defenders.

Completing the cast are Bien Juanillo, Danika Gendrauli, Lhara Mae Clavano, and Vhima Condada.

Acaylar's approach is focused on gradual improvement.

He said, "If we lose, we lose. We are taking things one step at a time for the meantime."

He also emphasizes the importance of building a strong coach-player relationship, stating, "I want my team to enjoy and know me as their head coach."

Despite being a first-timer in handling a PVL team, Acaylar aims to bring the successful strategies he used with men's teams to the women's division.

He's optimistic that success will come in due time, and his theme song, "Pagdating ng Panahon," reflects his patient approach.
