Savi Davison earns PVL PC POW honors after explosive QF showing

It’s not a secret Savi Davison is PLDT’s first and foremost weapon.

Davison continues to go on a tear in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, leading the High Speed Hitters to the quarterfinals.

The Filipino-Canadian hitter punched in 34 points to match her career-best, lifting PLDT past ZUS Coffee, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 26-24, in their qualifying round match last Tuesday at the Philsports Arena.

Davison's career-game forged a best-of-three series against Choco Mucho.

“I think it was just a mentality shift from preliminaries to … the playoff round,” Davison said. “Our coach told [the] team earlier that it’s a long road from here [leading to the] championship. So it’s best for our team to set a standard. Hopefully, we move all the way up from here.”

With her explosive performance that led to the important victory, Davison earned the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week presented by Pilipinas Live for the period of March 4 to March 6 -- her second this conference.

She bested teammate Kim Fajardo, who also stepped up big time against the Thunderbelles after main playmaker Angge Alcantara got hurt near the end of the opening frame, for the weekly nod of the competition streamed live and on-demand via the Pilipinas Live app and on www.pvl.ph

Davison also surpassed Akari’s Ivy Lacsina, Chery Tiggo’s Cess Robles and Vanie Gandler of Cignal for the weekly plum deliberated by reporters from print and online publications covering the pioneering volleyball league.

Davison is determined to achieve her goal since her debut in the second All-Filipino Conference back in 2023—to power PLDT to a first-ever title.

Playing only in her third conference after being sidelined by a minor knee procedure during the Reinforced Conference last year, the former US NCAA Division 1 standout wants to accomplish that mission.

“I want a championship. I wanna be … at that really top spot at the end of the season, I guess I’m really preparing for that, so hopefully I’ll just keep performing until we get there and when that time comes,” she said.

But the journey to the top won’t be easy and PLDT has no time to celebrate just yet, not with Sisi Rondina and the rest of the Flying Titans, who haven’t lost a single game since the start of this year, waiting in the next round.

“I think the top thing that comes to my mind right now is controlling our side of the net and make sure that [Rondina] does not score as much as she typically does,” the ever-reliable hitter out of the University of Oklahoma and New Mexico State University said.

“I think with that [thinking] we were able to control our side a little bit more [against ZUS Coffee]. So, that might be something we prioritize [opposite the Titans], but again they have other people that work, and we try to look at and take care of as well,” Davison said. “Hopefully, it’s gonna be a good game.”
