Cignal is showing no signs of slowing down in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.
With a flawless 4-0 record, the HD Spikers on the brink of a perfect Pool B sweep and has set a high bar for the competition.
Their dominance was on full display in a commanding straight-sets victory over the defending champions, Petro Gazz Angels.
In a highly anticipated rematch of the 2022 Reinforced Finals, Cignal overwhelmed the struggling Angels, securing a 25-19, 25-19, 25-22 triumph on Thursday afternoon.
What made Cignal's win even more remarkable was their near-perfect performance.
The HD Spikers committed just six errors throughout the match—a PVL record for the fewest errors by a single team in a game. This level of precision underscores their commitment to quality and execution.
“Sobrang proud ako kasi yun talaga yung isa sa goal namin, actually,” said Cignal head coach Shaq delos Santos. “Every training, kailangan talaga maging quality yung performance. Hopefully mamaintain yan kasi bihira sa amin, before first set pa lang may six errors na kami service pa lang. So ngayon super happy and proud sa buong team kasi grabe yung mindset and focus namin.”
This win was especially sweet for Cignal, as they sought redemption against Petro Gazz, the team that thwarted their championship dreams in 2022. Back then, the Angels proved too strong, clinching the title in two games.
“Definitely yes talaga, kasi gusto talaga namin makabawi – not only sa team na ‘to, but dito sa conference na ito,” Delos Santos added.
The HD Spikers are now riding a wave of confidence with the leadership of MJ Perez.
The 36-year-old Venezuelan reinforcement has been instrumental, averaging 23.75 points per game across four matches and providing invaluable experience and leadership in the absence of key players Dawn Catindig and Jovelyn Gonzaga.
“We have a very good import,” Delos Santos said. “To be honest talaga not only doon sa performance, being leader, senior sa team. Yung mindset namin ngayon na-ilevel up din namin, and hopefully ma-maintain and mas ma-improve pa namin ito.”
